“The main challenge for the Club in 2020 was how to run a season of polo under the Covid restrictions. Well, it all happened, but sadly without spectators and family visitors which are so much a part of polo at New Park.
The game itself had to change, to be played under new rules bought in by the HPA, which govern our sport. These rules reduced the level of contact and created more space between players, and the traditional packed line outs on the ball were replaced with knock ins from either end.
The pace and excitement of the game did not diminish in any way as a result of this, and the Club received a full complement of entries for all it’s major tournaments.
The Womens Festival, running on a new date in August was won by Maize Dulce, and the much prized Blue Jackets trophy was also won by Maize Dulce. An amazing achievement for Peter Barfoots teams.
We were greatly helped by good weather on most playing weekends, and the whole season was only possible with the small number of volunteers that run the Club each weekend, and rose to the challenge of laying on polo in a Covid secure environment.”
